Trellis At Work
Last summer Red Star fabricated and installed the trellis pictured in the above photograph. Recently the homeowner contacted us to let us know that her wisteria had begun to grow onto the trellis. Project Manager Alexi Morrissey visited the site and took these photos.
The entire project was fabricated using traditional joinery — including wrapping techniques, mortise and tenon joints, and riveting. Since this ironwork was to be outside and plants were going to be growing upon it, extra care was taken ensure a rust-proof finish. The entire trellis was first galvanized and then painted using a process that is typically utilized by PENNDOT. This technique creates a durable finish that stands up to Pennsylvania’s weather extremes.
