Tomahawk Firescreen
For one of our our current projects we were asked to design a firescreen with a Southwestern Native American influence. Here is the final concept drawing that was approved by the client…

Before beginning fabrication on this project, Peter made a full-size model of the firescreen using foamcore.

Here is the mostly fabricated firescreen. The feathers are handforged using a chisel. The “rope” that attaches the feathers to the firescreen was braided by hand using thin steel strips.

Now work has begun on the two tomahawk-style hatchets that will become the firescreen handles.

Two test versions of what will become the hatchet

Peter and our intern/apprentice Marcus work on piercing a block of steel to create one of the hatchet heads. The hole they pierce will allow the handle to pass through the hatchet head.
