New Project in Shop - Room Divider
Today we bring you another project that has recently hit the shop. It is a room divider for a home residence. The final product will be over 9 feet tall and over 10 feet wide.
These first couple photos give you a little insight into our design process. The first photo is one of the original presentation drawings we did for the client. He liked the general direction we were heading in, but felt there was a bit too much repetition across the field of the room divider. The second drawing reflects the final version that we are working on. You can see how we replaced portions of the quadrifoils (the 4-leafed design element) and replaced them with the ornamental circles. This is a normal part of the Red Star process – listening to the client’s design feedback and coming back with updated designs.

The following photographs show the work that has begun on this room divider. The basic framework of the room divider has been fabricated and fitted together, as seen below. Now the work is in the process of creating the ornamentation. The quadrafoils are made leaf by leaf – the process of which is documented in the last batch of photographs.

The main quadrifoil design used for filling in most of the room divider.

Each quadrifoil is made one leaf at a time. After tapering the ends of a piece of steel, the entire piece is heated in the forge and then wrapped around a circular form.

Finally, four leaves will be welded together to create a quadrifoil. The individual quadrifoils will then be collared together using traditional joinery to create the field of the room divider.
We’ll keep you updated on the status of this project.
