Flower Ornament

As an update to our last news item, here’s some photos of the ornamental flowers that will be part of the horizontal band at the top of the railings. As stated previously, these rails are for a private residence and have been designed for the client under the direction of the folks at Mark Stephen Design.

Here you can see the flower petals and leaves. These were laser-cut out of metal plate and then textured and shaped by hand. The flowers were designed to match closely floral patterns in the client’s carpeting.

The centers of the flowers are made of several small pieces. On the right you can see the silicon-bronze washer that was used to make the outer ring of the center. Silicon-bronze has a higher copper content and thus has a more copper finish than the normally darker shade you might think of for bronze.

A completed flower!

Not related to the flowers, but here is a shot of Joe working on the twisted posts that will be the endposts of the rails.
